Darlington’s festive fun run returns

Community Fundraisers Emily Robson (l) and Deborah Gibbs (r) get into the festive spirit
Sprinting Santas, running reindeers and ambling elves will spread some festive cheer at an annual fundraiser next month.

The Darlington Santa Run in aid of St Teresa’s Hospice will take place on December 4 and is open to participants of all ages and abilities.

The event, which has to date raised in excess of £40,000, helps fund the hospice on Woodland Road, Darlington, which provides free care for people in Darlington, South Durham and North Yorkshire affected by life-limiting illness.

There is still time to register for a place in the run, which starts and ends at West Park Academy, in Darlington.

St Teresa’s Hospice community support fundraiser Emily Robson said: “Santa Run is a highlight of the fundraising calendar and a fabulous way to kick-start the festive period.

“Santa suits and hats are supplied to all participants, and everyone gets a medal for taking part. We’re grateful to our new sponsors Lane Systems Ltd. for their support this year which means that everyone will get a tasty treat at the finish line.”

More than 200 runners are expected to join, completing the 5km Santa Sprint, the 2km Reindeer Run or Elf Amble, each raising at least £15 for the hospice.

Emily continued: “It’s great to see the runners who come back year after year, as well as welcoming new participants to the Santa Run. We’re grateful to everyone for their support.”

The Mayor of Darlington and representatives of Darlington Rotary, which sponsors the event and provides volunteer marshals, are expected to be on the start line to get the event underway.

There will be stalls before and after the run, including a tombola with lots of prizes, and Christmas cards sold in aid of the Hospice.

It costs £15 per adult to enter and £10 for children aged five-15; under-fives are free but must be accompanied by an adult. Entries close on Tuesday 29th November. To enter, visit www.darlingtonhospice.org.uk/santa-run-2022/

The run is on Sunday, December 4, starting at 10am.
