St Teresa’s Hospice is committed to ‘Caring about Equality’ this Carers Week 2025, running from 9th-15th June.

This year’s theme, ‘Caring about Equality’, will focus on highlighting the challenges and inequalities faced by unpaid carers across the UK, calling for a fairer society where they have access to greater support.

As part of this year’s Carers Week, St Teresa’s Hospice is shining a spotlight on the specialist support available for those who care for someone with a life-limiting illness.

“We recognise that when someone is living with a life-limiting condition, it can have a significant impact on those who care for and about them,” said Deborah Robinson, Director of Care. “That’s why we offer a range of dedicated services for carers, even if the person they’re supporting isn’t currently receiving hospice care.”

The support available through St Teresa’s includes practical guidance around issues such as financial concerns and future care planning, as well as emotional support and counselling. A dedicated carers group provides a welcoming space for people to connect with others in similar situations, and the hospice’s counselling service is available to carers of all ages, including children and young people.

St Teresa’s Hospice is proud to take part in Carers Week, using the opportunity to raise awareness of its carer support services and to ensure that more people know help is available.

“Carers Week is an important opportunity to reach out to those who may not realise they’re entitled to support”, said Deborah Robinson, Director of Care. “We want every carer who could benefit from our services to know we are here for them. Our team is here to support carers in whatever way is most meaningful for them and their families”.

There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled. Despite contributing an estimated £184 billion to the UK economy each year, many carers feel undervalued and unsupported.

Carers Week 2025 is organised by Carers UK, alongside charity supporters Age UK, Carers Trust, MND Association, Oxfam GB, Rethink Mental Illness, The ME Association and The Lewy Body Society.

Together, the eight charities are welcoming individuals and organisations to join them in raising awareness, to increase visibility for carers with decision makers, services, employers, communities, and businesses.

Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said, “Carers Week 2025 is a crucial opportunity to raise awareness, highlighting those who provide essential care to family members, friends or neighbours who need it most. We want to see a future where carers have the right support and the same opportunities to lead healthy and financially secure lives alongside their caring role.

Individuals, employers, businesses, schools, health and care services can make a difference by coming together to highlight the importance of ‘Caring about Equality’. With all parts of the community involved, we can work together for an equal society, where carers are recognised, valued and supported.”
